Primary Science Week Competition 2024

Terms and Conditions

Welcome to the Primary Science Week 2024 Competitions (the “Competition”). Participation in the Competition is subject to the terms and conditions outlined below. By entering the Competition, entrants agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.

1. Eligibility: The Competition is open to primary and intermediate school classes in New Zealand. Each class must be supervised by a teacher or an adult authorised by the school. 

2. Competition Period: Entries will open on Monday 29th April 2024, and close on Friday 17th May at 5pm. Entries submitted outside of the competition period will not be considered.

3. How to Enter:

Participants are required to film their class conducting a safe science experiment, identifying the risks involved in the experiment and explaining how safety is maintained must be included. 
Participants are required to complete a Risk Assessment Form as provided by NZAPSE available on the entry form and marketing material. The Risk Assessment Form must be uploaded via the Google form entry. 

The video and risk assessment form must be uploaded via the Google form entry in either doc or PDF format for the write-up, and in an acceptable video format as outlined on the submission page.

4. Permissions and Consents:
a. All students appearing in the video or photo must have obtained permission from a parent or legal guardian allowing their image to be shared publicly.
b. Teachers or the submitting adult must collect and retain consent forms and may be required to present these upon request.
c. By submitting an entry, the teacher or submitting adult confirms that all necessary consents have been obtained and that the entry complies with all relevant laws and regulations.

5. Judging and Prizes:
a. Entries will be judged based on creativity, scientific merit, and adherence to safety protocols.
b. Winners will be announced on the Primary Science Teachers New Zealand Facebook group and the NZAPSE website, and through direct communication with the winners using information provided in their entry. 
c. Winning videos and photos will be featured on the NZAPSE website with accompanying resources available publicly. 

6. Intellectual Property:
a. Entrants retain ownership of their submissions. However, by entering the Competition, entrants grant NZAPSE a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, publish, and display the entries in any media for promoting the Competition.

7. Data Protection: Personal information collected during the Competition will be processed in accordance with applicable privacy laws and will only be used for the purposes of administering the Competition.

8. Liability: NZAPSE and its affiliates will not be liable for any loss, damage, or injury of any nature howsoever caused, to participants or their property, except where and to the full extent that it is unlawful to exclude such liability under applicable law.

9. Amendments: NZAPSE reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions at any time. Any amendments will be effectively immediately upon posting on the NZPASE website.

10. Governing Law: These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of New Zealand, and participants submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New Zealand.
